GORDON, Robert & Mary McBride Gordon
In the decades following the Irish Great Famine settlers continued to pour into the British Colonies. The Gordon family emigrated in 1855 and first settled in Ross Township. Son Robert was a lad of 15 years when he came to Upper Canada with his family.
Their son Robert Gordon Jr. (1840-1913) m. Mary McBride (1842-1915), who was the daughter of Robert McBride and Margaret Blair and he was the son of Robert Gordon Sr. and his wife May Loved. They married in the Westmeath Presbyterian Church 30 April 1867.
They are listed in the 1901 Census as living in Westmeath Village aged 60 and 58 years with their year of immigration listed as: Robert 1855 and Mary 1863.
Mary McBride Gordon died of heart failure on Christmas Day 1915. 1915-Mary’s-Death-Reg.
The seven children of Robert and Mary Gordon were:
1. Mary Elizabeth Gordon (1870- ) m. David Bromley (1860-1932), son of Edward Bromley (1818-1901) and Sarah Holmes (1822-1909). They farmed on Bromley Line, Westmeath Township and raised three children. See BROMLEY entry.

3. Daniel Robertson Gordon (1874- ) married Nellie A. Spavin, 17, Scotland, in Westmeath, daughter of John Spavin & Susan Angus, witnesses were Robert Gordon & Tillie Snowden both of Westmeath, June 24, 1896, Westmeath Presbyterian Church.
4. Francis Ann Gordon (1876- ) at age 21 m. John Wright, in 1897 in the Westmeath Presbyterian Church. 1897 John & Frances Marriage. This was John’s second marriage. They raised five children. See WRIGHT entry. This family lived on Lookout Road.
5. Margaret Ann Gordon (1879-1949) m. William Henry Heaney (1873-1956) in May 1902 in the Westmeath Presbyterian Church. The groom was from Waltham, Pontiac County, Quebec, and the young couple settled there.
