GRYLLS, Wm. Frederick and Eva Louise Wright Keyes Grylls

Fred Grylls came to Westmeath to teach at the village school and he would find in Westmeath a job, as well as a wife and family; but it didn’t start out that way.  First he needed a place to stay and Jack and Eva Keyes offered him room and board. Eva Wright Keyes Grylls was the daughter of May Elizabeth Tucker and John Wright. Both WRIGHT and TUCKER families were important community builders. The 1911 Census for Westmeath Village shows a W.F. Grylls of 45 years, was living with the Keyes household. After Joseph Keyes’ death, Eva Keyes would marry Fred Grylls.  All seven children of the blended family were raised in the white house on the Main and Creek St. corner, across from St. Mary’s church, in Westmeath Village. But it wasn’t called blended then. It was just what you did – families stuck together.
