JACKSON, William Thomas and Elizabeth Eliza Bess Appleby
The Appleby family had immigrated from Shillellagh, Co. Wicklow, Ireland and settled in Lanark County, Eastern Ontario. In 1840, Elizabeth Elisa Bess Appleby married William Thomas Jackson from County Wicklow, Ireland, who had come to Canada with his parents Thomas Jackson and Margaret Tomlinson and first settled in Lanark County.
William Thomas Jackson (1813-1868) and Elizabeth Appleby (1817-1903), lived on the 10th Concession, Lanark County and would have five children:
- Susan Jackson (1843-1929) m. Enoch Price (1831-1928) and lived in Westmeath Township. Their children were:
i. Abraham Price (1864-1990) m. Margaret Ann Sullivan (1864-1938), a girl from Westmeath Township.
ii. Thomas Price (1868-1952) m. Nancy Carnegie (1876-1910)
iii. Elizabeth Price (1872-1906) m. Robert Woodburn Carnegie. She died at Beachburg.
iv. Enoch Samuel Price (1882-1957) m. Elizabeth Elliott Costello (1882-1949), also a Westmeath Township girl.
2. Thomas “Tommy” Jackson (1846-1918) m. Florence “Flora” Clark (1845-1912). They raised their family in Lanark County.
3. William Jackson (1847 0r 1848-1911) m. Jane Clark (1856-1936) Jackson,JaneClarke . The JACKSONS first farmed in Lanark County and then moved to Ross Township; later to the Sixth Line (Lookout Road) of Westmeath Township. The children of William and Jane Clark were:
i. Elizabeth Jackson (1880) m. Samuel Bennett. Bennett, Elizabeth Jackson. They married in 1899 and Sam died of drowning in the Ottawa River in 1932. They lived first in Westmeath Township then moved to Cooper Cliff. Their children were: Delmar, Manly, Lindsey, Herbert, Gerald, John, Stella and Lois.
ii. William Herbert Jackson (1881-1960) m. Annie Martha Mills and they farmed on the Sixth Line Jackson Homestead. Jackson, William Herbert. They had one daughter Pearl who married Percy Moore.
iii. Estella “Stella”Jackson m. John Mills. Mills, John and Estella. They had no children.
iv. Bertha Jane Jackson (1892-1980) m. Robert (Bobby) McLeese (1888-1971). McLeese, Robert. They farmed on the north LaPasse end of the Gore Line. Their two sons were: Stewart and John Earl. McLeese Earl. See MCLEESE entry.
4. John Jackson (1851- ) m. Mariah McCall (1854-1927). They married in Carleton Place, Lanark County, and lived in Buchanan, Wylie and Rolph Township.
